Before a missed parade
Report an Absence
Cadets must notify the squadron before every missed parade or activity.
If your cadet cannot attend a parade night or scheduled activity, an absence report is required. Use one of the two accepted methods below. A message must be left one way or the other. Both are not needed. Cadets are expected to report their own absences.
Option 1: Email
Send an email to the officers at 12air@cadets.gc.ca. The subject line ("Reporting an absence") is filled in for you.
Include all four of the following in the message:
- Cadet's rank
- Cadet's name
- Date of the missed parade or activity
- Reason for the absence
Option 2: Cadet365 Teams
Post in the squadron's Microsoft Teams space on Cadet365.
- Team: T-NW-12 Air
- Channel: Attendance
Include the same information: rank, name, date, and reason.
Excused and unexcused absences
If you report an absence, it is recorded as excused. If a cadet simply does not show up without notice, it is an unexcused absence. Unexcused absences count toward a cadet's attendance record and can affect promotions and consideration for duty positions, so a quick message always helps.
Planned absences
If you know in advance that your cadet will miss a parade (school exams, family travel, sports commitments), please report as early as possible. Advance notice helps the officers plan the training night.
